How to Get the Perfect Holiday Look

Festive season is upon us, and for those who are attending or hosting holiday parties, this is the perfect excuse to add sparkle, a bold lip, or a smokey eye to your makeup look. It’s officially the time of the year where you can try something new, have fun with it, and embrace a confidence you didn’t know you had.

Holidays are the perfect time to transform your makeup routine and allow yourself to experiment. The variations of scarlets and emeralds allow every person to take a piece of holiday colors and create a look that is uniquely them this holiday season!

The key for a flawless makeup application is skincare. It’s important to have a skincare routine that's suited for your skin type and will give you healthy, glowing skin and understand what your skin needs. Every person’s skin is different, so the goal is to use the basic steps and cater them to your unique needs. Without the proper skin prep, makeup won’t hold up as well, so we’ve included steps to prep your skin for a beautiful glow:

Step 1: Cleanse your Face

Before applying any sort of product, you must wash your face with a facial cleanser. This seems like a no-brainer, but it’s important to use something gentle enough for the sensitive skin of the face! This will help clean your skin from any dirt, and absorb any excess oils left behind.

Step 2: Exfoliate

A gentle exfoliator will remove dead skin and leave you with a natural glow. There are two types of exfoliators – a chemical and a physical exfoliator. A physical exfoliator is something that might have some grit to it, and a chemical is a liquid that creates the same effect. Using a good exfoliator will improve your skin texture and glow. This can typically be done one to two times per week.

Step 3: Toner or Serum (or both!)

Toners help prep the skin for any skincare to go on top of it and serums target specific skin care issues (like dark spots, pores, or fine lines.) These can be used alone, but are a great option to use together!

Step 4: Moisturize

Of course, moisturizers are an essential in any skincare routine. Hydrated skin allows for a smooth makeup application. Moisturizers are great for all skin types, even for our oily skin gals!

Step 6: Primer

Primers will be your best friend for that smooth filter look. They can add a blurring effect, a protective factor, and don’t allow the moisturizer and oils on your skin to mix with your makeup.

Now that your skin is well prepped, you can begin your application! While many of us love the drama of a bold cherry lip, there are so many ways to give your look a little extra holiday cheer.

While a smokey eye wows for any occasion, the variety of eyeshadows and meticulous blending means the look is a bit more time-consuming than you might like. A pop of shimmer or a soft glitter (yes, glitter can be soft!) can be just what you need to brighten up a holiday look. Our favorite wearable shades come from Stila (you have to try their liquid glitters!) and Too Faced. Glitter can be messy, so add a single layer of any liquid glitter with a flat brush or your finger and lightly blend it onto your lid. The goal is to create a topcoat that sparkles when the light hits it. It makes any holiday makeup glamorous!

If glitter and shimmer isn't your thing, popping on a pair of lashes and adding some eyeliner can take your look to the next level! When you pair a winged liner and pop some lashes on, they create a beautiful and timeless look.

If your favorite feature is your lips, a gorgeous lipstick is a great way to define your pout with rich, velvety, long- lasting color. If your lips are the star of the show, get a hydrating lipstick or a matte lip color for long wearing. We love a bold cherry lip or a soft brown to finish off your holiday glam!

Finish off your makeup with a setting spray to lock in your makeup. Get creative and make your look your own this holiday season. Be sure to show us how your holiday makeup turns out by taking a killer selfie and tagging us in it on our social platforms.

Happy Holidays!
