Airbrush Vs. Traditional
Finding a Makeup Artist can be overwhelming and stressful, especially if you are looking for a specific look or confused on what type of makeup application you should go with.
Your wedding day will feel fleeting in the moment, but your photos will last forever. Certain makeup applications might look one way in person and photograph differently – which brings on every bride’s question: is airbrush makeup better than traditional makeup or vise versa. And what are the real differences between the two? We will dive in deep into the two to discuss which application is best suited for you!
Airbrush Makeup
In an airbrush makeup application, your eyes, lips, lashes, brows, and concealer are still done using traditional makeup. Airbrush is applied with a spray machine for your foundation, blush, bronzer, and highlight. Many people think airbrush makeup will provide an effect similar to when you airbrush a photograph, but it's really quite the opposite! Airbrush makeup goes on super sheer in coverage-- it will blur imperfections but not totally cover them. It provides a stained glass effect for your skin meaning it allows the natural hues in your skin to radiate through the makeup. In other words? It’s incredibly natural. It has a radiant finish, meaning it has a shine and provides a lit from within kind of glow. An airbrush makeup application will most closely mimic the way your skin looks when you are fresh out of the shower.
Airbrush makeup is a great option for anyone with dry skin, someone who doesn't like the way makeup looks or feels on their skin, and more mature skin. Airbrush makeup is ideal for mature skin because it sets on contact, meaning there is no need for setting powders in an airbrush application.
Traditional Makeup
Traditional makeup is applied with a brush or sponge -- think your standard liquid makeup. Traditional makeup refers to liquid, cream, or powdered foundations that are applied with a range of tools including Fiber brushes, Sponges, and Foundation Brushes. The application of liquid/cream makeup usually requires the use of a primer first, while powdered (or mineral) foundations can typically be applied without one. The beauty of a traditional makeup application is that it is totally customizable. Your artist can cater your look to your exact taste and preferences – adjusting the coverage and finish to a look that is totally unique and all your own. All types are formulated to give your skin an even tone and provide coverage for any blemishes or imperfections that you may want to be covered up.
At Black Swan Beauty, our artists are trained on how to manipulate their formulas with additives and mix ins to curate a look that is completely unique to our clients. This training allows traditional to be both radiant and matte as well as full or sheer coverage depending on the desired outcome and the skilled hand of your artist. Traditional makeup can be ideal for anyone with more oily or acne prone skin or anyone who is looking for a more done up look.
There’s not a right or wrong choice – each person might have a totally different preference and that’s totally ok! Our goal is to provide you with both options so that the look we achieve is exactly what you envision. Our artists come prepared with the ability to do both applications and can discuss which option might be best for you during your consultation. Bringing photos to your consultation allows us to narrow down which option will bring you the glam of your dreams.
